How It's Made

Your photo is converted to a high-contrast greyscale map, then translated into laser engraving depth instructions — lighter areas receive shallower burns, darker areas deeper burns. The CO₂ laser runs at 300–600 DPI across the wood surface, creating a continuous-tone engraving that reads as a photograph. After engraving, the surface is cleaned with compressed air and optionally hand-finished with a light natural varnish.

What type of photo works best for wood engraving?
High-contrast photos with clear facial features work best. Avoid very dark backgrounds or low-light shots. Our design team converts and reviews every image before engraving.

Is the engraving permanent?
Yes — laser engraving removes wood fibres; the image cannot be washed, faded or peeled off. It is as permanent as the wood itself.
