What Are Custom Magic Mugs?

Magic Mugs look like ordinary solid-black mugs at room temperature. When you add tea, coffee or any hot drink, the heat-sensitive coating becomes transparent and your full-colour personalised photo or artwork appears. As the mug cools, it returns to black. The effect works repeatedly without degrading. They are 11oz ceramic, food-grade, and suitable for birthdays, Valentine's Day, anniversaries and corporate gifting that aims for a memorable unboxing moment.

How It's Made

A full-colour photo is sublimated onto the ceramic surface first, then the entire mug is coated with a heat-reactive black layer that bonds over the image. At room temperature only the black coating is visible. When heated, the coating's opacity drops to near-zero, revealing the image underneath. Quality control checks both the room-temperature opacity and the hot-reveal clarity before dispatch.

FAQ

Does the colour-change effect wear out over time?
With normal use the heat-reactive coating retains its effect for several years. Hand-washing is recommended over dishwasher to preserve the coating longest.

What type of image works best?
High-contrast, bright images with faces work best. Our design team reviews every file before printing and will contact you if adjustments are needed.
