What Are Spot UV Visiting Cards?

Spot UV is a printing technique where a clear ultraviolet-cured gloss coating is applied to specific areas of a card — logos, names, or graphic elements — while the rest remains matte. The result is a dual-texture surface: the matte base absorbs light; the UV-coated zones reflect it and sit slightly raised above the surface. This contrast is visible and tactile, distinguishing Spot UV from full-gloss laminate or standard matte cards.

How It’s Printed

CMYK inks are printed onto 350 GSM matboard and cured. A UV-sensitive clear coat is then screen-applied through a mask aligned to the design file, depositing gloss only where specified. The UV coat is cured under ultraviolet light, hardening it into a raised layer. Cards are then cut to 90mm × 54mm.
