Printigly has printed thousands of brochures in Bangalore since 1984 — and from ₹8 per piece at 500+ copies, we know which designs work and which ones go straight to the bin.
Rule 1: Design for the Pickup, Not Just the Read
A brochure has two jobs. First: get picked up. Second: get read. Most designers focus only on the second. The cover needs to answer one question instantly: “Is this relevant to me?”
Use a bold headline that names the reader’s problem or desire. “Are you paying too much for your office stationery?” beats “Premium Business Printing Services” every time.
Rule 2: One Main Message Per Panel
A tri-fold brochure has six panels. Each panel should carry one main idea. Don’t cram three value propositions, four images, and a price list into one panel. White space is not wasted space — it creates hierarchy and makes reading effortless.
Typical tri-fold structure that works:
- Panel 1 (front cover): Bold headline + single striking image + your name
- Panel 2 (inside left): Problem/need you solve
- Panel 3 (inside centre): Your solution / how it works
- Panel 4 (inside right): Proof — testimonials, numbers, certifications
- Panel 5 (back centre): Products/services list
- Panel 6 (back right flap): Contact + CTA + QR code
Rule 3: Choose the Right Fold Type for Your Content
At Printigly, we print multiple fold types:
- Tri-fold (letter fold): Most common. 6 panels. Works for most businesses.
- Z-fold: Accordion style. Good for timelines or step-by-step content.
- Bi-fold (half fold): 4 panels, premium feel, more space per panel.
- Gate fold: Two outer flaps open to reveal a wide inner spread. Luxury and real estate.
- French fold: Elegant, compact. Popular for invitations and high-end brands.

Rule 4: Typography That Guides the Eye
Use a maximum of two font families — one for headlines, one for body text. Headlines: 18–24pt. Subheadings: 12–14pt. Body text: 9–10pt minimum on printed materials.
Line spacing (leading) of 1.3–1.5 for body text makes reading much more comfortable. Tighter leading looks elegant on screen but becomes cramped in print.
Avoid ALL CAPS for body text. It slows reading speed by up to 15%. Use it sparingly for short headlines or emphasis only.
Rule 5: Colour Psychology in Brochures
Colour communicates before text is read. Key associations:
- Blue: Trust, reliability, professional (finance, technology, healthcare)
- Green: Growth, natural, eco-friendly (sustainability, wellness, education)
- Orange/Red: Energy, urgency, appetite (food, retail, events)
- Purple: Luxury, creativity (premium brands, beauty)
- Navy + Gold: Premium, established, authority (legal, consulting, real estate)
Limit your palette to 2–3 colours. Every additional colour adds printing cost and visual noise.
Rule 6: Images That Earn Their Space
Every image must serve a purpose. Good uses: show the product in use, show the team, show the outcome/result, show the location. Bad uses: stock photos of handshakes, generic cityscapes, or decorative borders.
Resolution minimum: 300 DPI at the printed size. A 72 DPI web image printed at A5 will be visibly blurry. Always source or shoot at full resolution.
Rule 7: Always Include a Clear Call to Action
What do you want readers to do after reading? Call, visit, scan a QR code, visit a website? Make that action obvious. Use a button-style CTA with a contrasting colour. “Call 72049 10047 for a free quote” is better than “Contact us for more information.”
Rule 8: Paper and Finish Match Brand Position
Paper choice communicates quality before a word is read. For professional services: 130–170 GSM coated with matte lamination. For premium brands: 250–300 GSM with soft-touch or velvet lamination. For eco-conscious brands: uncoated, recycled paper. For budget distribution (trade shows, flyers): 90–115 GSM uncoated.
Rule 9: Get the File Specs Right
At Printigly, print-ready brochure files need: PDF format, CMYK colour mode (not RGB), 300 DPI resolution, 3mm bleed on all sides, and fonts embedded or outlined. Submitting an RGB file causes colour shifts — what looks vibrant on screen can look dull in print.
Rule 10: Proof Before You Print
Always request a digital proof before final printing. Check: text is complete and not cut off, images are sharp, colours look correct, fold lines are properly accounted for. At Printigly, all orders include a free digital proof. For large orders, we recommend a physical sample at ₹99.
